One of the most frustrating things in golf is to walk up onto a tee box and look at a huge wide open fairway then it tee up and hit your ball into the rough or trees. Polara Golf feels your pain and knows there is a lot of us out there who are challenged to consistently hit the ball straight down the middle and keep it in the short grass for 18 holes.

So a few years ago Polar brought a ball to the market that went straighter then your typical ball. And then a year or so later they improved that design to make their ball go even straighter. Now, Polara is bringing a driver to work with that ball to help hit it farther and keep you landing in the middle of the fairway.

POLARA GOLF ADVANTAGE DRIVERS

Polara Golf’s Advantage Drivers™ are designed to exceed the USGA’s distance limits. Available in four lofts: 10.5, 12, HL1 and HL3. The HL1 and HL3 are specifically engineered to work with the Polara Golf Ultimate Straight™ golf balls to deliver the straightest and longest shots in golf. The drivers are 475cc and are designed with an exclusive ultra-thin, beta-titanium face. These non-conforming drivers are larger than the USGA allows and have a large sweet spot providing fewer mishits. Polara Golf designs products to make the game of golf more enjoyable.

• Non-conforming, ultra-thin, beta-Titanium face: stronger, lighter and more resilient

Not only was there almost perfect golf weather in the I.E. last week but Santa came early to two courses that I visited.

New Carts have Arrived!

Both Hidden Valley and Oak Quarry just received a brand new fleet of golf carts. Both golf course staff and golfers where grinning while all the new carts where heading out for 18.

If you have not played either of these courses – you should put them on your list to play. Both offer great rates for the golf that you get at each course. And both have a lot of elevation changes throughout the courses. So to have a new fleet with brand new batteries means everyone moves faster and with out delay (at least from the carts).

The weather moves quickly from cool and misty early morning to sunny and comfortable by mid morning – perfect golf weather.

Here are links to both courses who both have recently won “Course of the Year” by the NGFA.

One thing everyone knows is that Donald Trump never does anything half way. You may love him or not, at least you know what your getting. In this case a golf course and club house that has spared no expense.

Every hole offers spectacular ocean view with Catalina Island in the offing.

I enjoy every visit I make to Trump National. The experience is always impressive. Driving to the club on the winding cliff side road you can’t miss the majestic club house with a giant American flag flying in full glory.

Everyone from the valet to the General Manager greets you with a smile and makes you feel like a VIP.

The golf course itself is amazing. The condition is always top notch and the challenge will humble most golfers. There are over the top water fall features, the bunkers are filled with crushed white sand and every hole offers spectacular ocean views with Catalina Island just in the offing. That alone makes it one of the best golf experiences in Southern California. I have heard critique of the course layout and about the difficulty. My take is, it wouldn’t one of the best if the course didn’t make you scratch your head and pull out a club you normally avoid for a chance at glory: if you hit it just right and get the distance and maybe bend it just enough to hit the green you will amaze your buddies with your mad skills. Of course if you miss the shot, your now in the water or one of those crushed white sand bunkers and you remember that your playing a course that demands good golf shots and course management.

The club house offers great food from what they call “The Best Hot Dog in L.A.” at the out door grill to a “Lobster Feast” in their upscale restaurant. If your looking for Trump souviners head over to the pro shop. There you find custom gold plated golf clubs with the Trump logo and plenty of hats that say “Your Fired” to fit everyones style. It also probably has one of the largest cigar selections you will find at a golf course. Check out the photos below.

Like the title says the Best of the Best.

This will be a blog about my journey as a golfer in the Southern California region. So. Cal. is one of the largest and what I feel is one of the best locations to be and play golf. There are a couple of other regions in the entire world that come close but if you weigh in all the courses, the availability of equipment, great weather and other activities to do when not golfing there is no question this is a great location for a golfer.

I would describe my ability to play the game as above average (only cause there are a lot of hacks out there). I have played at some of the most exclusive courses from Sherwood to Riviera and some of the best public courses from Trump National to Torrey Pines. I have also spent my fair share of time on executive courses like David L Baker, Penmar to Colton Golf Course. I feel all courses offer their own benefits and challenges and learned how to appreciate all different types of courses.

Like most golfers, I have bought into all the hype each year of how the new driver with a couple of weights and new shaft is going to make me hit it longer and straight down the middle. I have a collection of putters that range from mallet to blade, feather light to solid lead. So I can share the fact that no matter what I am swinging its still me swinging the club. But there are some that work better for certain golfers and I have learned this from trying, watching others and talking to manufactures and golf shop owners and club fitters.

I also will be letting you know all the deals that I come across. So. Cal. is a not short on courses so the competition for golfers is fierce so when I know of a can’t miss deal I will share the wealth. If you would like to get in touch with me please email: golfsocalstyle@gmail.com
